Aidan Hutchinson enters NFL history books with 4.5-sack day vs. Bucs

Aidan Hutchinson and the Detroit Lions fell to 1-1 with a 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, but the 3rd-year player out of Michigan certainly made his mark.
Hutchinson was a wrecking ball all afternoon for the Lions, sacking Bucs QB Baker Mayfield 4.5 times. That came one week after being credited with one sack in the Lions’ 26-20 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams to open the season.
Hitchinson joined rare company with his performance as he now has at least one 3-sack outing in his first 3 seasons. The only other players to do so are Justin Houston, Jevon Kearse, and Hall of Famer Reggie White.
With 3 sacks in the 1st half today, @aidanhutch97 is the 4th player since 1982, when the individual sack became an official stat, with a 3-sack game in each of his 1st 3 seasons.

He could have had 5 sacks if half of one hadn’t been eventually credited to teammate Levi Onwuzurike, but Hutchinson’s total ranks 2nd-most in a game in Lions franchise history. He also became just the 3rd player in NFL history to total at least 5 sacks and a forced fumble in the first 2 games of a regular season.
Hutchinson had 9.5 sacks as a rookie and 11.5 in 2023. He looks to be well on his way to even bigger things in 2024.
