The year of the Wolverine continued to roll Thursday night!
During the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson came off the board with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. After getting passed over by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hutchinson will stay in Michigan after getting selected by the Detroit Lions.
Hutchinson also gives Michigan another edge in The Game rivalry over Ohio State. According to Stephen Means with Cleveland.com, 2022 is the first time since the 2014 NFL Draft that Michigan had a player selected before Ohio State in the draft.
In 2014, it was Michigan’s Taylor Lewan coming off the board a few picks before Ohio State’s Ryan Shazier:
Random fact: Aidan Hutchinson going No. 2 to the Lions marks the first time since 2014 that the first Michigan player was drafted before the first Ohio State player
Taylor Lewan went to the Titans at No. 11 while Ryan Shazier went to the Steelers at No. 15 that year

After leading the Wolverines to a rousing rivalry victory and B1G Championship in 2021, Hutchinson can rest easy after besting the Buckeyes one final time via the draft.
