Aidan Hutchinson left the Detroit Lions’ game against the Dallas Cowboys with a nasty leg injury.
After the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave an update on his star defensive end, who has 6.5 sacks on the season. It’s a tibia fracture, with Hutchinson undergoing surgery in a Dallas-area hospital.
“Hate it for Hutch,” Campbell said, according to Pro Football Talk. “It was tough. He’s in good hands right now. He’s being taken care of. He’ll stay back here, and obviously he’s going to be down a little while, so that’s tough, and it’s hard when you lose somebody like him. We’ll know a lot more after this and obviously wish him the best.”
Hutchinson has had a remarkable career since being taken second overall out of Michigan by the Lions in 2022. As a rookie, he totaled 9.5 sacks. A year later, in 2023, he had 11.5 sacks, just outside the top 10 in that department but enough to earn him a spot in the Pro Bowl.
Hutchinson’s 6.5 sacks in 2024 had him in the NFL lead. But for a player who has been a major part of the Lions’ resurgence — they came a win away from the Super Bowl in 2023 — any length of time with him unavailable represents a massive loss for the team.
