Aidan Hutchinson says his father, an ER doctor, has been ‘debunking’ data B1G commish used to cancel season

Aidan Hutchinson hasn’t been holding back at all. The Michigan defensive end is still frustrated that the B1G season has been postponed, and he’s had no qualms with ripping commissioner Kevin Warren or UM President Mark Schlissel.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Marty Smith, Hutchinson dropped a bit of a bombshell.

Aidan’s father, Chris Hutchinson, is an emergency room doctor and a former two-time All-American at Michigan. The younger Hutchinson says that his dad has been debunking the data that Warren and B1G presidents used in relation to myocarditis to cancel the fall football season.

“I just got off the phone with my mom and she was telling me about how my dad has just been debunking the whole data that Kevin Warren, the B1G commissioner, has been using as his primary data to cancel the season,” Aidan said. “My dad was really curious on this data with the heart condition and so we looked at the data and it was just very flawed, is what he told me.

“It wasn’t right for Kevin Warren to use that data as his primary reason to cancel the season.”

Chris isn’t the only doctor who saw flaws in the data.

Venk Murthy, a University of Michigan cardiologist, mentioned similar findings in a Twitter post shortly after the B1G decision.

“The Big 10 report on COVID relies heavily on this paper which found rampant abnormalities among normal controls and had man statistic that make no sense,” Murthy wrote on Twitter. “Time to retract this paper.

“[To be honest] I’m not a football guy so whether they put off a year doesn’t really affect me, but the Big 10 is a majorly respected organization and many Americans get their news from ESPN. Unfortunately, much of the messaging center around a flawed paper.”

University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel has stayed very quiet on the matter.

Also while speaking with Smith, Aidan expressed frustration with the B1G’s decision to cancel the season.

“I would say my emotions are just frustration. I’m just infuriated,” Aidan said on the show. “They made this decision without talking to us. The commissioner, our president — there were no words exchanged asking our thoughts on whether we wanna play. Because, at the end of the day, we’re the ones playing the game and they didn’t ask us for our opinion and it’s super frustrating to find out one day that our president voted for us not to have a season when I’ve never seen that guy in my three years here at Michigan.

“So, you know, it was definitely frustrating and felt kinda helpless because there’s nothing I can do and us players don’t have a voice.”
