Aidan Hutchinson just sustained what appeared to be a disastrous injury in a Week 6 game for the Detroit Lions.

Facing the Dallas Cowboys, the Lions were in heavy control of the game in the 3rd quarter. Hutchinson was getting after QB Dak Prescott on a 2nd-and-5 play and registered the sack, but that is not the major concern right now.

On the play, Hutchinson’s left leg slammed into a teammate who was also barreling into the backfield and Hutchinson immediately went to the ground and stayed down. As teammates gathered around, Hutchinson was already removing his gloves to prepare to come out of the game.

A brief replay from FOX showed what looks like a broken bone in Hutchinson’s leg before the broadcast confirmed they would not show the play again. Detroit’s training staff was seen preparing an air cast for Hutchinson in what is a major blow to the Lions.

Hutchinson was off to an electric start to his 3rd NFL season, racking up 6.5 sacks across his first 4 games of the season entering Sunday. Now, it will be about turning his attention to recovery and rehab for the foreseeable future.

The incident led to a suddenly somber scene as the Lions gathered around Hutchinson and the cart was brought out. There’s no denying what the former Michigan star means to Detroit both in terms of performance and leadership, and the Lions were understandably emotional at the sight of Hutchinson being injured.
