All in the family: Penn State basketball nets commitment from son of coach Micah Shrewsberry

Penn State basketball will have an extra family feel on the hardwood in the near future.

The Nittany Lions recently received a commitment from shooting guard Braeden Shrewsberry, who is the son of new Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry.

“It was just a really good fit,” Braeden Shrewsberry said to the Centre Daily Times.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Braeden Shrewsberry received interest from George Washington, Saint Joseph’s, and Xavier amongst others. Shrewsberry is deemed by 247Sports as the No. 42 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 8 prospect from Pennsylvania for the class of 2023.

Braeden Shrewsberry believes during his time at Penn State that the program can ascend to a special height.

“I feel like we can build up to be one of the best teams in the Big Ten,” Braeden said to the Centre Daily Times. “… The other (2022) commits here are really good players. They’re gonna bring it up to another level that I don’t think these fans have seen yet.”

Penn State is the first head coaching job for Micah Shrewsberry, who previously served as an assistant at Purdue and for the Boston Celtics.

The Nittany Lions are off to a 3-1 start this season and will face LSU on Nov. 26 (7 p.m. EST/CBS Sports Network).
