Andrel Anthony addresses injury status ahead of Michigan’s Fiesta Bowl appearance

Michigan wide receiver Andrel Anthony could be the x-factor for the Wolverines’ passing attack against No. 3 TCU. Then again, will he even see the field Saturday in the College Football Playoff?

Anthony told reported during media sessions Thursday that he intends to play against the Horned Frogs at State Farm Stadium. The sophomore had been limited in practice earlier this week as he recovers from an ankle sprain.

“I’m trying hard as hell, as hard as possible (to get ready for Saturday). I’ll be good though,” said Anthony. “They didn’t have me doing too much early on in the week, but since (Wednesday), I’ve been moving a lot more and I feel pretty good.”

According to 247Sports, Anthony was a full participant at practice for U-M during the media open session. He was seen in full pads and even was running routes for starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy during warmups.

Anthony has appeared in all 13 games and has seven receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Expectations were high for the East Lansing product at the start of the season, but the production of the ground game often took priority over the Wolverines’ passing attack.

Fans of U-M might remember Anthony best for his 35-yard touchdown reception from McCarthy last season in the Orange Bowl against Georgia in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Should both the Bulldogs and Wolverines win Saturday, the two programs would meet once more with a national title on the line at So Fi Stadium in Los Angeles on Jan. 9.
