Another member of Minnesota’s basketball team has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Freshman center Matrice Mitchell has jumped into the database and will explore his options outside of the Twin Cities. His decision comes after the program made a head coaching change, firing Richard Pitino and hiring former assistant and player Ben Johnson.

247Sports was able to confirm his entry into the portal on Tuesday afternoon. Mitchell is the sixth Gopher to explore opportunities elsewhere since the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.

Marcus Carr, Jamal Mashburn Jr., Sam Freeman, Jarvis Omersa and Tre Williams are also in the portal. It’s unclear how many, if any, plan to return to play for Johnson, though that is still a possibility.

In his first season with the Gophers, Mitchell saw action in seven games and played 23 total minutes. The 6-foot-10, Chicago native ended the season with 9 points, 2 rebounds and a steal.

Minnesota ended the season with a 14-15 record.
