Another Pac-12 team has declined a bowl invitation and this time it’s USC.
Brett McMurphy of Stadium.com broke the news via his Twitter:
USC has opted out of playing in a bowl this season. Pac-12 down to only 3 bowl teams (if Arizona State wins & accepts bid)
— Brett McMurphy (@Brett_McMurphy) December 20, 2020
As the tweet also says, there are only three Pac-12 teams that are potentially going to play a bowl game. Oregon has yet to withdraw from playing one, and the same can be said about Colorado and Arizona State.
USC made this decision not even 24 hours after their Pac-12 Conference Championship loss to Oregon. They lost 31-24 which dropped their record to 5-1.
They weren’t able to make a comeback in the fourth quarter and quarterback Kedon Slovis also didn’t have that good of a game. He threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, but his three interceptions were a big reason as to why the Trojans ultimately fell.
USC definitely won’t be the last team to opt-out of a bowl game before this is said and done.
