AP report shows that over 1,000 super seniors will take advantage of NCAA’s extra eligibility. Here’s a B1G breakdown
When the NCAA announced that it would install a blanket waiver for all fall student-athletes to redeem an additional year of eligibility, we knew there would be a number of football players who would take advantage. Just how many would return was the question.
Now, with the 2020 season behind us and spring ball getting started, we have a better idea of how many “super seniors” will take advantage of that extra year of eligibility.
According to the Associated Press, over 1,000 “super seniors” will be returning for the 2021 season to take advantage of the NCAA’s additional year of eligibility. How does that break down in terms of the B1G? The AP had each team’s total.
Here’s a look at how many “super seniors” are coming back for each team next fall:
- Illinois Fighting Illini: 17
- Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 13
- Minnesota Golden Gophers: 10
- Indiana Hoosiers: 8
- Wisconsin Badgers: 7
- Nebraska Cornhuskers: 7
- Michigan State Spartans: 5
- Ohio State Buckeyes: 5
- Northwestern Wildcats: 4
- Purdue Boilermakers: 4
- Iowa Hawkeyes: 3
- Penn State Nittany Lions: 3
- Maryland Terrapins: 1
- Michigan Wolverines: 1
- TOTAL: 88
