The new AP Top 25 was released on Sunday afternoon, and it contained 6 Big Ten teams. That list was topped by defending national champion Ohio State, which remained at No. 1 after pounding Grambling State, and No. 2 Penn State, which struggled early before blowing out FIU.
Ohio State received 57 first-place votes, while Penn State earned 5 first-place votes as the Big Ten powers stayed in the top 2 spots they filled after Week 1. Keep in mind that Ohio State will host Penn State on Nov. 1, so that showdown has the opportunity to be a No. 1 vs. No. 2 epic matchup in Columbus.
Aside from Ohio State and Penn State, the Big Ten also featured another top-10 juggernaut with No. 4 Oregon sliding up 2 spots after its 69-3 destruction of Oklahoma State in Eugene. The Ducks scored all 69 of their points in the first 3 quarters, so there was an opportunity to make that Autzen Stadium scoreboard look worse than it did.
While the Big Ten was very top heavy once again with 3 of the top 4 teams in the new AP poll, 3 other teams from the league earned spots in the Week 3 poll.
There was No. 9 Illinois, which also moved up 2 spots after taking down Duke on the road in Week 2. That made for 4 Big Ten teams in the top 10 alone, a sign that the league is determined to keep adding to its trophy case after capturing the past 2 national championships with Michigan in 2023 and Ohio State last season.
Speaking of Michigan, the Wolverines were beaten at Oklahoma on Saturday night, and they paid for it in the poll. Michigan moved down 8 spots from No. 15 to No. 23 in the new poll.
Indiana moved up 1 spot on Sunday, sliding up to No. 22, 1 spot ahead of Michigan, after improving to 2-0 with a rout of Kennesaw State on Saturday.
