In 2018, Michigan State went to Tempe, Ariz. to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils. Arizona State won that game 16-13.
Both defenses were stout, as the score indicates.

For Week 3 of the 2019 season, it is Arizona State who will be traveling to Michigan to take on the Spartans. Ahead of the matchup, numerous Sun Devil players and coaches spoke about the Spartans.
One player from Arizona State talked about Michigan State’s offense. That player?
Cornerback Chase Lucas. Here’s Lucas taking a bit of a shot at the Spartans:
“I don’t think it’s nothing that we can’t handle,” Lucas said. “The receivers are big. They’re Big Ten receivers. But I don’t see nothing much that we can’t cover. There’s not a whole lot of things that I’m seeing offensively. The one thing that they do, they try to get you dirty eyes, trying to do a whole bunch of motion in the backfield and stuff like that.”
Lucas isn’t seeing much from Michigan State’s offense. Ouch.
He says that Michigan State tries to trick you with motion, but he isn’t concerned about the team’s receivers from a skill perspective. There is such a thing as confidence. And maybe Lucas isn’t being disrespectful here.
Maybe Lucas just has confidence.
Maybe.
