Army will host the game for the first time since World War 2 because the original site (Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia) is operating at a lower stadium capacity due to COVID-19 safety protocols.
Lieutenant General Darryl A. Williams expressed that relocating was the most responsible decision.
“The health and welfare of the Corps of Cadets and Brigade of Midshipmen is the number one priority,” Williams said to GoArmyWestPoint.com. “Hosting the Army-Navy Game on West Point will be the safest way for the Cadets and Midshipmen to experience the game.”
It’s expected that there won’t any fans at the game, with the Corps of Cadets and Brigade of Midshipmen as the lone spectators.
“We want to thank the City of Philadelphia, the Eagles and all involved in the planning for their efforts to navigate this historic game in the current COVID-19 climate,” Army Director of Athletics Mike Buddie said. “We are excited about this historic opportunity to host Navy and the Brigade inside the gates of West Point for the first time since 1943.”
Navy leads the all-time series 61-52. Navy snapped a three-game losing streak in the series last season with a 31-7 victory.
The Dec. 12 game will be televised on CBS Sports Network at 3 p.m. (EST).
