Associated Press announces individual honors for 2020 B1G football season

Not surprisingly, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields and Iowa defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon led the way in the AP’s annual awards for the Big Ten.
Fields, coming off arguably the worst game of his collegiate career this past Saturday in Ohio State’s win in the Big Ten Championship Game against Northwestern, was named by the AP as the Big Ten’s ‘Offensive Player of the Year.’ A likely top five selection in next spring’s NFL Draft, Fields had 1,521 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.
As for Nixon, the defensive tackle was nothing short of outstanding for Iowa. The junior had 45 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble for the 6-2 Hawkeyes.
Northwestern defensive back Brandon Joseph, despite appearing in four games in 2019, was named the Big Ten’s ‘Newcomer of the Year.’ The redshirt freshman was tremendous with 49 tackles and six interceptions and a major reason why the Wildcats made the Big Ten Championship Game.
No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll with a 6-1 record, Indiana head coach Tom Allen’s winning style as well as his infectious personality has won fans all over college football. He was named the conference’s coach of the year by the AP.
The AP’s individual honors for the Big Ten:
Offensive Player of the Year — Justin Fields, Ohio State
Defensive Player of the Year — Daviyon Nixon, Iowa
Newcomer of the Year — Brandon Joseph, Northwestern
Coach of the Year — Tom Allen, Indiana
