The Associated Press has announced the winner of the 2019 college football Player of the Year award.

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has claimed the award from the Associated Press following an outstanding season in Baton Rouge. Burrow guided the Tigers to a perfect 13-0 season, an SEC title and a berth in the College Football Playoff, the Tigers first appearance.

Burrow threw for 4,715 yards and 48 touchdowns while completing passes at a sizzling 77 percent clip. He was a big reason LSU’s offense flourished under new passing game coordinator Joe Brady.

According to the AP, Burrow claimed the award in a landslide. He received 51 of 54 first-place votes. Ohio State defensive end Chase Young took the other three first-place votes.

Young finished second, followed by Justin Fields in third and Jalen Hurts in fourth.

Burrow is the first player to win the award from LSU. He’s also expected to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night.
