It’s a question that surfaces every year and there’s never a set answer: which head coaching job in college football is the most attractive?
Several programs could make the case that it’s the most attractive spot to be a head coach — and many would have pretty strong arguments. But Athlon Sports has attempted to settle the debate, ranking all 130 head coaching jobs at the FBS level.
Rather than go through all 130, we’ve decided to show which programs Athlon Sports put in its top 10, and where it ranked the 14 B1G teams. We are a B1G site, after all.
Athlon Sports based the rankings on a number of factors, including tradition, facilities, location, money and ability to recruit talent. Here are the top 10, which includes just one B1G school:
- Georgia
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Florida
- USC
- Clemson
- Oklahoma
- Florida State
- LSU
The list was dominated by states in the south, mostly because of the rich football culture, number of four- and five-star prospects and, of course, location. That warm weather is certainly appealing to a lot of players.
Here’s where Athlon Sports ranked the B1G schools:
- No. 3: Ohio State
- No. 11: Michigan
- No. 14: Penn State
- No. 19: Nebraska
- No. 24: Wisconsin
- No. 25: Michigan State
- No. 29: Iowa
- No. 38: Maryland
- No. 52: Purdue
- No. 53: Illinois
- No. 56: Northwestern
- No. 57: Minnesota
- No. 69: Indiana
- No. 76: Rutgers
