The Atlanta Falcons won their Week 17 game 20-19 against the Arizona Cardinals on a last-second field goal. The team’s social media account made a post that angered some fans on social media.
Ohio State K Noah Ruggles was in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on New Year’s Eve as Ohio State took on Georgia in the Peach Bowl. Ruggles missed a potential game-winning 50-yard field goal. The Bulldogs won 42-41 because of it.
After Falcons K Younghoe Koo made the kick, the social media account posted the video saying “this is how you make a game-winning field goal (at Mercedes-Benz Stadium)” in reference to Ruggles’ miss. This is an interesting ploy from an NFL team that is going to miss the playoffs.
Atlanta has not been to the playoffs since 2017 and was reminded of that on social media. Plenty of “28-3” jabs were made too, talking about their loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
Here are some of the better reactions to the shade thrown at Ruggles:
Super weird flex to throw shade on a broken-hearted college kid—using a 21-yard FG to beat a 4-win team to move to 6 wins, no less, as fodder. https://t.co/SOcOpC8YN5

How have you not deleted this yet?!?

Totally inexcusable dig at a college player.
The Atlanta Falcons franchise deserves more 28-3 moments.
Laughing stock of the NFL.

Congratulations on kicking a 21 yard field goal to finish last in the worst division in the NFL! That’s awesome!
— Tyler Wise (@Tylerwisee) January 2, 2023
Because I’m sure @noahruggles can’t make a 21 yard field goal kick. Didn’t Ruggles make all his PAT’s from that distance? 50 yard kick to send your team to the championship isn’t easy @AtlantaFalcons. Oh, and isn’t Georgia the Number 1 team in the nation? Put some respect on tOSU https://t.co/fUHip2HS3m

You’re garbage Atlanta.
21 yards vs 50 yards very different.
Also 28-3. https://t.co/A3RnCmXlaL

This is laughable coming from the Falcons. Tell us more about your franchise record and rich winning history…Or we could discuss the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history Tom Brady put on you guys. https://t.co/HaGxV1xARQ

Who in the world hit send on this tweet?
Making fun of a college kid that missed a FG from 30 yards further back, in a playoff game. Great look.
Congrats on your 6th win, and being in last place in the worst division in the sport. 👏🏻 https://t.co/ct1PpUMK34

Because hitting a chip shot to move to 6-10 over the 4-11 Cardinals is precisely the same as knocking down a 50-yarder for a trip to the National Title. https://t.co/3Fi7CIJA0K

21 yarder vs 52 yarder. Miss me with this. 🥹🤨 https://t.co/U2bt6Z69Fk

Taking a shot at a college kid?… Really? https://t.co/VUklG1MWky
— Brett West (@Bretty_Westside) January 2, 2023
A 21 yard field goal by a professional kicker is just slightly different than a 49 yard field goal from a 20 something year old kid incollege?
But hey have fun watching the playoffs from home on your couch just like you have since 2017🤡 https://t.co/PXC5kvW5Sy
