Avery Henry, Ohio State OL, begins treatment after cancer diagnosis

Avery Henry may have not appeared on the field for Ohio State this season, but the freshman is certainly a fighter off the field. Back in December, Henry announced that he had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that is most often found in teenagers and young adults.
On Tuesday, Henry announced via Twitter that he had begun chemotherapy treatments. Posing with his parents, Henry posted a picture of himself in the hospital hooked up to an IV machine. The offensive lineman stated that he is fighting, and asked others to do the same, adding the hashtags “I’m not a statistic,” “fighter,” and “screw cancer.”

A member of the 2022 Buckeyes class, Henry was a 3-star recruit. He was the 58th-rated offensive tackle and the 20th-rated player from the state of Ohio, according to the 247Sports Composite. Henry chose Ohio State over offers from six other schools, including Syracuse, and West Virginia.
