Illinois’ 1,000-point club has a new addition.

During Saturday’s game against Ohio, Ayo Dosunmu dropped in his 1,000th career point as a member of the Fighting Illini. The impressive career milestone comes just three games into Illinois’ 2020-21 campaign. He’s in his junior year with Illinois.

Dosunmu entered his junior season with a career point total of 940, needing just 60 more to hit the impressive milestone. In two games this season, Dosunmu scored 50 and was able to get an additional 10 early in the third game against Ohio.

On Wednesday, Dosunmu scored a career-high 28 points in Illinois’ 122-60 win over North Carolina A&T. On Thanksgiving, he added 22 to his season total, leading Illinois to a 97-38 victory over Chicago State.

Since arriving in Champaign, Dosunmu has been incredibly consistent. He scored 442 points as a freshman during the 2018-19 season and 498 points as a sophomore.

Illinois is ranked as the No. 8 team in the country and is off to a 2-0 start this season. A win over Ohio would push Brad Underwood’s squad to 3-0.
