The B1G is filled with tremendous student-athletes in a variety of sports, but only two can earn the honor of Athlete of the Year.
Wednesday morning, the B1G announced the 2018-19 winners of the B1G Athlete of the Year award. Iowa women’s basketball star Megan Gustafson was named the B1G Female Athlete of the Year and Penn State wrestler Bo Nickal was the B1G Male Athlete of the Year.

Gustafson was a star on the floor for the Hawkeyes during the basketball season, scoring 1,001 points (27.8 per game), grabbing 481 rebounds (13.4 per game) and shooting 69.6 percent from the field. She ended the season with 33 double-doubles.
After an incredible season, Gustafson was named the B1G Player of the Year and was the Naismith Trophy Women’s Player of the Year. She guided the Hawkeyes to a B1G Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Nickal won his third NCAA national championship on the mat this winter to close out his career at Penn State. He was nearly unbeatable during his time in State College, finishing with a record of 120-3 with 59 career pins.
