One coach in the B1G believed that Ohio State could take a step back in 2023.
In 2022, Ohio State reached the College Football Playoff and finished the season with an 11-2 record. Ohio State’s 2 losses came in the last 2 games of the season against Michigan and Georgia. For the 2023 season, Ohio State will need to replace several players at key positions.
ESPN college football writer Adam Rittenberg wrote about key headlines heading into next season and he included one part about a B1G assistant’s take on Ohio State’s control over the conference (Via ESPN):
“Ohio State will be interesting because who’s going to be the quarterback,” a Big Ten assistant said. “Here’s what’s amazing: Iowa’s defense has good players — they’re just not heralded. I love Cooper DeJean, Riley Moss, but there’s no reason that Ohio State D-line and secondary shouldn’t be as good or better.”
The assistant coach also proclaimed that Michigan is the best team in the conference and Penn State could emerge as a threat to the Buckeyes and the rest of the conference. Ohio State last won the B1G Championship in 2020 and missed out on winning the conference championship with back-to-back losses to Michigan.
Ohio State will look to return to the Playoff in 2023.
