B1G bowl projections after Week 1

The first week of the Big Ten football season upended a lot of people’s expectations.

So it’s only fitting that our preseason bowl projections were pretty well shaken up after just one week of B1G action.

These projections, as always, are supposed to be a reflection of where we think teams will end up at the conclusion of the conference season, not where they are now. However, it’s also true that, in an eight-game conference-only season instead of a 12-game slate with a few nonconference foes, more emphasis will be placed on each game.

For instance, Indiana can and should expect to be rewarded more for knocking off Penn State in stunning fashion. And the Associated Press poll did reward the Hoosiers, placing them 17th in the rankings. Our projections don’t necessarily follow rankings because there are so many other factors involved — besides, the College Football Playoff committee makes the ultimate decisions, not the media members voting for AP.
