College football is back, and it’s as glorious as ever. The Week 1 slate is officially complete.
And what a week it was. Ohio State proved it belongs in contention for the national title alongside Alabama and Georgia, outplaying No. 5 Notre Dame in Columbus. The B1G is also 10-0 in non-conference games, only suffering losses to other B1G opponents.
Michigan looked strong in its clobbering of Colorado State at the Big House. The Wolverines are looking to defend their B1G championship from last season. Still, it’s Ohio State we see getting the B1G back into the CFP and the final game of the season, a game dominated by the SEC the past 5+ years.
Now is as good a time as any to make some bowl projections. The B1G postseason slate looks similar to last season; the conference will add the Duke’s Mayo Bowl to its lineup instead of the Las Vegas Bowl. Wisconsin downed Arizona State last year in Las Vegas, but the bowl rotates between the SEC and B1G on a year-to-year basis, meaning a B1G coach will have the chance to earn the coveted mayo bath.
Thrilling, we know.
The B1G will have 3 schools reach a New Year’s Six contest this season, including an Ohio State appearance in the College Football Playoff against the reigning national champions.
The goal for the rest of the 9 squads projected to reach a bowl is to improve upon last season’s B1G record. The conference went 6-4 in bowl games last season, seeing Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Rutgers fall. The Scarlet Knights made it despite a losing season following Texas A&M’s withdrawal from the Gator Bowl because of a COVID-19 outbreak.
Here it is in all its glory – our bowl projections for 2022 following a strong Week 1 conference performance.
