B1G commissioner Kevin Warren remains ‘cautiously optimistic’ for a complete B1G season amidst excitement for Week 1

The 2020 B1G season is finally here!

After an initial cancellation of the season, the fall season has been reinstated and officially kicked off on Friday. Wisconsin and Illinois got the season started with the Badgers rolling to a big win behind the debut of quarterback Graham Mertz.

On Saturday morning, B1G commissioner Kevin Warren was interviewed by ESPN’s College GameDay to discuss the return to action. Warren admitted to being very excited to see B1G football in play and what it means for all the players, universities, and fans across the country.

Moving forward, Warren said he is “cautiously optimistic” for the complete season, but he reminded fans that these teams are still playing in a pandemic:

“We have to keep in mind, we are playing football in a global pandemic,” said Warren, “So I just remain cautiously optimistic that we will have a very good Big Ten football season, and we’ll continue to trust our medical personnel.”

Hopefully the delay to the season and improved testing protocols help the B1G avoid major issues. Week 1 continues with 12 teams in action with games starting at 12 pm EST.
