An intriguing week around the B1G saw these two stars recognized for standout performances.

The week was capped off by a Sunday of upsets, including Northwestern’s impressive double-digit win over then-No. 4 Michigan State. It was the first for the Wildcats over a top-5 team since the 1970s.

Elsewhere around the conference, Purdue shined with a win over a quality non-conference opponent in Notre Dame and an upset of B1G foe Ohio State. That pushed the Boilermakers to 6-2 on the season heading into a Tuesday night game against No. 4 Iowa.

For their contributions, a Wildcat and a Boilermaker were tabbed with B1G honors for the week.

B1G Player of the Week – Boo Buie, G, Northwestern

Buie’s highlight of the week was putting up a massive 30 points, a new career-high, in the win over Michigan State. He sank 5-for-6 on three-point shooting in engineering the upset. Buie becomes the first Northwestern Player of the Week since 2017.

B1G Freshman of the Week – Mason Gillis, F, Purdue

Gillis was certainly efficient this week, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor with two three-pointers. His best game came with 12 points and nine rebounds in the win over Notre Dame. Gillis is currently riding a streak of 10 consecutive makes, currently five short of Purdue’s all-time streak of shots without a miss.

Gillis joins freshman center Zach Edey as Boilermakers to earn Freshman of the Week honors so far this season.
