The B1G lost 7 non-conference games on Saturday, which hadn’t happened in over 80 years

Talk about a miserable Saturday.

Week 3 couldn’t have gotten much worse for the B1G, as the conference finished with a 6-7 record for the day. Posting a sub-.500 mark is bad enough, but here’s what makes that even worse: the conference hadn’t lost that many games in one day since 1936.

No need to break out the calculator, that’s 82 years since the B1G has lost that many games on a single day. It was also the first time the Associated Press poll debuted.

Those (not so) lovely statistics come via Jason Starrett of The Athletic.

That’s not a great look for a conference that was trying to earn a little respect after missing out on the College Football Playoff last year.

To recap the day, here are the seven teams that lost in the B1G:

  • USF def. Illinois
  • Temple def. Maryland
  • Troy def. Nebraska
  • Akron def. Northwestern
  • Missouri def. Purdue
  • Kansas def. Rutgers
  • BYU def. No. 6 Wisconsin

For those keeping track at home, only two of those teams (Missouri and Kansas) come from Power Five conferences. BYU is an independent.

Week 3 is going to be one that stings for awhile. The only place to go from here is up.
