The B1G Athletes of the Year for the 2019-20 academic year have been announced.
On Thursday, the conference revealed that Ohio State junior defensive end Chase Young and Wisconsin junior middle blocker Dana Rettke were named the B1G Athletes of the Year. The league released a statement to make the announcement.
Young was a Heisman Trophy finalist for the Buckeyes last season, totaling 16.5 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, three pass break-ups and a blocked kick. He was named the B1G Defensive Player of the Year and was the second overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft in April.
With Young’s help, Ohio State finished the football season with 13-1 record, a B1G title and a trip to the College Football Playoff.
Rettke was a key part of helping Wisconsin reach the NCAA national championship match in volleyball this past season. She was named the B1G Player of the Year and has been a first-team All-American in three-straight seasons.
The junior led the conference with 1.45 blocks per set and averaged a .390 hitting percentage. Rettke also averaged 3.75 kills per set.
