Despite an off year in 2020, Purdue pass rusher George Karlaftis is still widely respected in Big Ten circles.
Big Ten Network analyst Joshua E. Perry is in the midst of ranking the top 30 players in the conference heading into the 2020 season, and he has Karlaftis at No. 6 overall.

“2020 was a tough year for George Karlaftis,” Perry said. “Had to deal with injuries, had to deal with covid issues. But let’s not forget about the type of player that he is. Rewind to 2019 when he was fully available. He was damn near unstoppable. 17 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks as a freshman with an interception.
“Barring any craziness this year, you gotta feel like he could be the best defensive lineman in the Big Ten conference.”
Karlaftis appeared in just two games last season, totaling 4 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. He’s widely expected to regain his 2019 form this season — which could be his last in a Boilermakers uniform.
Purdue opens its 2021 season on Sept. 4. against Oregon State.
