For one half of action, it looked like Penn State would finish the season in disastrous fashion against Nebraska.
Heading into halftime, the Huskers had built a 14-point lead, 37-23 over the Nittany Lions. Penn State struggled to shoot the ball both inside and out as Nebraska was rolling at the break.
In the second half, the script was flipped as Penn State exploded for 49 points on the way to a 72-66 come from behind victory. It puts the Nittany Lions into Day 2 of the tournament and a matchup against Wisconsin Thursday evening.
For his part in the comeback, BTN analyst Andy Katz highlighted Penn State’s Jamari Wheeler as his star of the night:
“Let’s start with our star of the night: Jamari Wheeler from Penn State,” said Katz. “A career-high 19 points in a comeback win for the Nittany Lions.”
Wheeler was the driving force offensively as he scored those 19 points on 6-for-13 shooting. He also added six rebounds and three assists in the win.
Katz also highlighted Myles Dread in his play of the night:
“My play of the night, in that same game actually,” said Katz. “Myles Dread, who had missed his first six shots, hits a huge three to give Penn State a little bit more of a comfortable lead late in the game.”
Remarkably, that would the only bucket and points for Dread. He finished 1-for-7 for the game, all from three-point range, with three points.
