Betting odds: D.J. Durkin, Urban Meyer most likely coaches to be fired first in 2018

Current odds suggest Ohio State coach Urban Meyer will keep his job, but the head Buckeye is still one of the most likely coaches to be fired first early in the 2018 season (or even preseason).
BetMyBookie has odds on the first college football head coach to be fired in 2018. Meyer’s odds are at +400, meaning a $100 bet wins $400 if he is fired, indicating keeping his job is seen as the more likely outcome.
The same cannot be said for Meyer’s former Florida assistant and B1G colleague D.J. Durkin. The Maryland head coach is, like Meyer, currently on administrative leave. The site has Durkin’s firing as likely to happen with odds of -150 ($150 must be bet to win $100).
Ohio State and Maryland reacted to bombshell reports by placing their head coaches on administrative leave. Meyer has been on leave since Aug. 1, the day reporter Brett McMurphy published photos and text messages from Courtney Smith documenting an alleged history of domestic abuse by former Buckeyes wide receivers coach Zach Smith. Durkin was placed on leave later in the month after ESPN published two reports focusing on the death of OL Jordan McNair and a “toxic culture” created by Durkin and staffers.
Other B1G coaches to make the list of potential early firings are Illinois’ Lovie Smith (+800) and Rutgers’ Chris Ash (+1500).
