Biff Poggi will no longer have to endure cold, harsh northern winters.

Poggi, the Michigan associate head coach, will be headed to warmer weather and a head coaching position in Charlotte. It was announced on Tuesday that Poggi had been tapped to lead the Charlotte 49ers football team.

A previous hedge-fund manager, Poggi took over head coaching duties at Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore in 2010. Saint Frances Academy is the first and oldest continually operating black Catholic educational facility in the US.

Poggi is widely credited with turning Saint Frances into a national powerhouse through recruitment and the creation of scholarship opportunities. Poggi left Saint Frances to join the Wolverines.

On Tuesday, Poggi reflected on the transition, noting the great possibilities for both himself and the new program.

“Joining the Charlotte 49ers is an incredible opportunity,” said Poggi via press release. “The great momentum created by the leadership of this University and its athletics program gives us every opportunity to build a successful pathway for so many young men in our region. For me, this is a full circle moment, a chance to pay forward the wonderful opportunities that were given to me as a young man. We can build a championship program at Charlotte, and I can’t wait to get started.”
