With nonconference play set to begin in roughly one week, the Big Ten has announced a conference schedule for the 2020-21 basketball season.
Each team will play 20 conference games, repeating a model that has been used in each of the last two seasons.
The first conference game of the year will take place on Dec. 13.
Here’s how the schedule was built, from the Big Ten’s press release: “Over the course of the conference season, schools will play seven teams twice — once at home and once on the road — and six teams once, with three of those games being at home and the other three away.”
The Big Ten also built in some flexibility if COVID-19 outbreaks cause cancelations or postponements. Each team will have two sets of “collapsible byes” from Jan. 18-21 and Jan. 25-28, and also from Feb. 22-25 and March 1-5.

Penn State and Michigan will tip off the Big Ten conference schedule on Dec. 13.
