Big Ten football unveils weekly honors for Week 5

Big Ten football is moving into Week 6 after a dramatic weekend of college football. Across the board, there were some strong showings from individual players within the league.
On Monday, the league officially unveiled the Players of the Week from Week 5 as we turn the calendar into October.

Offensive Player of the Week
- Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland QB
Tagovailoa accounted for 6 total touchdowns (5 passing touchdowns) during Maryland’s blowout win over Indiana. In the process, he became the first Terp QB to eclipse 9,000 career passing yards
Co-Defensive Player of the Week
- Nick Jackson, Iowa LB
- Josaiah Stewart, Michigan Edge
Jackson produced 10 tackles for a second straight game with 10+ tackles in Iowa’s win over Michigan State. Forced a fumble in the 4th quarter as Iowa held the Spartans out of the end zone.
Stewart registered the first 2 sacks of his time with Michigan and registered a career-high 5 tackles. As a unit, the Wolverine defense allowed just 106 rushing yards to Nebraska.
Special Teams Player of the Week
- Cooper DeJean, Iowa DB
DeJean produced a go-ahead 70-yard punt return touchdown to give Iowa a late lead vs. MSU. Produced 6 tackles on defense and his first interception of the season.
Freshman of the Week
- Zach Evans, Minnesota RB
Evans filled in for the injured Darius Taylor and produced 15 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. Did not register a carry for negative yardage with an average of 5.7 yards per carry.
