Big Ten basketball is heading to 3 different time zones in the 2024-25 season, and in the future, the B1G Tournament will be held in every time zone represented in the league.
On Wednesday, the B1G announced the host venues for the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments from 2025-28. Both men’s and women’s tournaments will be in Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse in 2025 before the men head to Chicago’s United Center in 2026. The women’s tournament will be back in Gainbridge Fieldhouse in 2026.
The 2027 tournament will feature women’s basketball heading to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with the men returning to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The 2027-28 season will feature the women’s tournament at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena while the men’s tournament will head to Las Vegas and T-Mobile Arena.
The new lineup allows for the basketball tournaments to be hosted within each time zone represented with the new-look B1G. This will be the first time ever that the event has been hosted in Las Vegas and Detroit.
Indianapolis has been a regular host with over 40 men’s and women’s tournaments hosted there in the B1G’s history. Chicago has hosted the men’s tournament 11 times before.
“We look forward to partnering with the cities of Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Las Vegas as they host the Big Ten Basketball Tournaments from 2025-28,” said Big Ten Commissioner, Tony Petitti. “Each city will be an exciting postseason opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and fans, both locally and from across the country.”

Petitti hinted at this type of move during B1G Media Days last week. He announced the football championship would remain in Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium for 4 more years, but left room for future championships to be played elsewhere down the road.
“I think you’re going to see us start to expand,” Petitti predicted. “I think it’s really important to make sure that markets around the country have a chance to experience Big Ten Championships.”
While basketball tournaments are a part of that, it’s possible (make that likely) the B1G Championship in football also makes trips out west sometime in the near future.
