On Thursday, news broke that Michigan State senior linebacker Joe Bachie failed a random drug test and is being ruled ineligible for the remainder of the season.

The news came as a surprise, as this doesn’t happen often. According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, his report stated that Bachie tested positive for a supplement considered to be a performance-enhancing substance that is banned by the Big Ten.
The exact supplement/substance is not known.
A few hours after the Bachie news broke, the Big Ten released a statement:
Statement sent from the Big Ten:
"The Conference randomly tests for performance enhancing drugs in all sports throughout the year. The Big Ten program follows the NCAA banned substance list with the exception of street drugs. We do not comment on specific cases."

Again, this doesn’t happen often. That is likely the reason the B1G released a statement regarding its random tests.
Bachie, barring a successful appeal, will be done playing college football due to no eligibility remaining.
