Maryland is expected to hire former Ohio State executive Jim Smith as its next athletic director, according to a report.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared that news on Thursday morning. Thamel notes that Smith previously spent time as Ohio State’s associate athletic director for marketing and communications. He was also the president of Ohio State’s alumni association until 2020.
Most recently, Smith has been with the Atlanta Braves as their senior vice president for business strategy. He’s also previously worked in the NFL and MLS throughout his career.
Smith would be replacing Damon Evans, who left College Park earlier this spring for the same role at SMU.
