Big Ten reveals All-B1G Defensive honors following 2023 season

The Big Ten award season is here with the B1G unveiling defensive and special teams honors on Tuesday. That included the individual Defensive Player of the Year which went to Illinois DL Johnny Newton.

When the first-team All-B1G defense was dropped, the unit had 8 consensus selections as voted on by the coaches and media. Newton was joined by Ohio State’s JT Tuimoloau and Chop Robinson as consensus DL selections.

At the linebacker spot, Ohio State’s Tommy Eichenberg was a consensus selection and also received the B1G’s LB of the Year award. Iowa LB Jay Higgins was also a consensus selection.

In the secondary, Iowa’s Cooper DeJean, Michigan’s Will Johnson and Minnesota’s Tyler Nubin received consensus designations. DeJean was also named the B1G’s Defensive Back of the Year.

Michigan DL Mason Graham, Penn State LB Abdul Carter and Ohio State DB Denzel Burke received first-team All-B1G honors from the coaches. Penn State DL Adisa Isaac, Indiana LB Aaron Casey and Michigan DB Mike Sainristil were first-team All-B1G from the media.
