Bill Hancock says no changes coming to CFB Playoff anytime soon

Those pushing for an eight-team field in the College Football Playoff are going to have to wait awhile before any changes are considered, according to chairman Bill Hancock.
On Thursday Hancock was asked about potential changes for the College Football Playoff following the annual spring meeting — particularly concerning the idea of expansion. According to multiple reports, Hancock says the committee is happy with the current format and there are no changes expected.
“The conversation continues but nothing has changed since we walked out of the room in San Jose,” Hancock said, according to Heather Dinich of ESPN. “We have a 12-year contract. We’re very happy with it.
“The conversation will continue. Don’t read too much into it. The commissioners are very happy with the success of the College Football Playoff.”
Conversations about expansion have again resurfaced this offseason and everyone seems to have a different opinion about the format. Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez says the selection committee is properly “following the criteria” and that the field should include eight teams. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey believes the setup is perfect as is.
It sounds like there’s no urgency to expand the playoff, and there won’t be for at least another decade — at least if you believe what Hancock says. So for anyone hoping for eight or 16 teams, the change may take awhile.
