Bill O’Brien makes decision on coaching future, per report

Bill O’Brien has head coaching stints at both the collegiate and NFL levels in his career. For the past two seasons, he has been the OC for Nick Saban at Alabama after being fired from his post as head coach of the Houston Texans.
As of Tuesday, O’Brien is reportedly heading back to the NFL at a familiar destination. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Low, O’Brien is returning to the New England Patriots to serve as the OC for Bill Belichick.
O’Brien was previously an assistant for Belichick and the franchise from 2007-11 before beginning his head coaching career.
Alabama OC/QB coach Bill O’Brien has returned to New England and is being named the Patriots offensive coordinator, sources tell @ClowESPN and me. O’Brien was a Patriots’ assistant coach from 2007-2011, and now returns to coach Mac Jones, whom he briefly worked with at Alabama.

O’Brien began his head coaching career at Penn State as the coach to succeed the Joe Paterno era. From 2012-13, O’Brien guided the program through some rocky times with a 15-9 overall record.
He left to be the head coach of the Houston Texans for the 2014 season and would go on to post a 52-48 overall record with 4 division titles before getting fired in 2020.
Now, it will be interesting to see how the Patriots’ offense responds in 2023 and where Nick Saban goes for another top assistant heading into next season.
