Blake Corum is on a roll in 2022 and is making his presence felt in the race for the Heisman Trophy. On Saturday, Corum rushed for 166 yards against Penn State, continuing his string of 100-yard performances.
Following Week 7, Corum has now rushed for at least 124 yards in 4 straight games. That stretch also includes a 243-yard outing vs. Maryland.
For the season, Corum is up to 901 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns with Michigan heading to a bye week at 7-0. He is just 51 yards off of his career-high 952 rushing yards in 12 games last season and has already eclipsed last season’s touchdown total.
So, how special are Corum’s 2022 numbers, and does he have an honest shot at the Heisman? According to multiple people, Corum’s numbers stack up favorably with Alabama RBs Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry, the last two running backs to take home the Heisman.
Through 7 games, Corum is on par with Henry’s yardage total from his 2015 Heisman season and has the slight edge in touchdowns. As for Ingram, Corum gives up the slight edge in rushing yardage and yards per carry but the Wolverine has scored more touchdowns entering Week 8.
There were four Heisman Trophy reps on hand at Michigan today.
Heisman winner Derrick Henry through 7 games in 2015: 901 rushing yards, 12 TD’s.
Blake Corum through 7 games this season: 901 rushing yards, 13 TD’s.

The Heisman has turned into a QB-dominated award most seasons. We’ll see if Corum can change that in 2022.
