Blake Corum was in the middle of a huge season and a potential Heisman Trophy campaign in 2022. Unfortunately, a knee injury originally sustained against Illinois eventually cut Corum’s season short.

Now, Corum is rehabbing and preparing to come back for the 2023 season. During Michigan’s spring game, he updated the status of his rehab and said he feels stronger than ever:

“Feeling stronger than ever. Now it’s just day-by-day,” explained Corum. “I’m not trying to rush it, sometimes I can get ahead of myself. Just day-by-day, making sure my knee is right and just coming back for the comeback.”

Asked for his reasons to come back to Ann Arbor, Corum said it’s all about finishing off what the Wolverines left “on the plate.” He remains confident his team can pull off another run through the B1G with all eyes on a national title:

“There’s just more left that I want to do. Not only on the field but for the community as well,” Corum said. “We have more that’s on the plate and I’m just trying to finish it off. Winning the national championship, winning the B1G again, beating Ohio State again. I’m coming for everything. I left some things out there, so I’m excited to be back. That’s why I came back. I love Michigan, I think we can get the job done.”

Outlook for Blake Corum in 2023

At this juncture, all signs are pointing toward a mostly healthy Corum for the season opener. Whether or not Corum is back to 100% is yet to be seen, but his trajectory looks to be on the right course.

However, even if Corum is 100% for the season, it is hard to envision him coming close to the numbers he posted in 2022, but that has more to do with Michigan’s depth than Corum’s abilities.

Donovan Edwards rushed for 991 yards while averaging 7.1 yards per carry while backing up and then replacing Corum after the injury. CJ Stokes also averaged 5 yards per pop with 55 carries a season ago. Regardless of Corum’s status, the Wolverines would be wise to try and keep their superstar fresh while maximizing the effectiveness of everyone on the roster.
