Brad Underwood gave an update on how Illinois is looking so far in practice.

So far, Underwood has liked what he’s seen from the defense, but believes the offense still has a ways to go.

Underwood’s team is also young, and much of its flaws so far stem from having a younger roster, but he believes that the mistakes will correct themselves in time. Eight of the players on the team are freshmen or sophomores.

Illinois is looking to improve after a 23-10 season a year ago with a second round tournament exit to Houston. The roster got significantly better over the offseason with the addition of transfers Terrance Shannon Jr. from Texas Tech and Matthew Mayer from Baylor. Illinois also brings in a top-recruiting class.

The Fighting Illini tip-off their season Nov. 7 when they take on Eastern Illinois at home. They also have an exhibition game Oct. 28 against Quincy at home.
