Brad Underwood released a statement on Friday after the news that Skyy Clark would be stepping away from the program came out. Underwood wanted to make sure people understood that Illinois supports Clark.

Clark committed to Illinois during the offseason after previously being committed to Kentucky. Underwood noted that Clark is still a valuable part of Illinois basketball.

“Skyy has made the decision to take some time away from basketball. He remains a valued part of our program and will continue to receive full support. Skyy is a thoughtful, caring young man who right now needs to prioritize himself and his family. This is bigger than basketball. We understand that and stand with him every step of the way.”

There is no indication as to why Clark decided to step away from the Fighting Illini at this time. The only thing that Clark said is that he is leaving for personal reasons and putting his family first.

Through 13 games Clark has averaged 7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. The Fighting Illini will be taking on Wisconsin in Champaign at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 without Clark.

Stay tuned for more updates about the Illini guard.
