Tempers flared after a last second touchdown in the ReliaQuest Bowl. The fight resulted after Illinois was trying to score on a lateral play.

Mississippi State took the lead on a short field goal from inside in the Illinois five-yard line beforehand. The Bulldogs then recovered the football on Illinois’ lateral play and took it to the house.

After the score a fight happened near the 50-yard line between a Mississippi State and Illinois player, and the benches cleared. Both teams had to be calmed down before the coaches shook hands at midfield.

Illinois lost to Mississippi State by a score of 19-10 even though the game was already decided thanks to the late field goal.

The Fighting Illini will finish the 2022 season at 8-5. At the end of the day, Bret Bielema’s growth from year one to year two should be talked about. Illinois had a 5-7 record last season.
