Bret Bielema provides update on injured QB Brandon Peters

When Brandon Peters grabbed his left shoulder after a sack against Nebraska, it was like the energy was sucked out of Memorial Stadium.
Peters, the Illini’s sixth-year quarterback, came back out later in the game with his arm in a sling and didn’t play the rest of the game. Rutgers transfer Artur Sitkowski came in and led Illinois to a 30-22 win over Nebraska in Week 0.
It doesn’t sound like Peters’ injury is as serious as it could’ve been, though. Illini coach Bret Bielema said the injury isn’t “long-standing” and he isn’t yet ruling Peters out for a Week 1 matchup with UTSA this week.
#illini Bret Bielema: Brandon Peters has a left shoulder injury. Not a long-standing injury. Not ruling him out this week but not optimistic or this week.

If Peters can’t go, Sitkowski proved he’s capable of running the offense. He completed 12 of his 15 passes for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns en route to B1G Offensive Player of the Week honors.
