Bret Bielema is now 4-1 after five games this season. His most recent 34-10 win against Wisconsin was a statement win over a B1G West foe.
The offense was missing a key piece for a part of it on Saturday, however. Pat Bryant left the game with a lower-leg injury against the Badgers. Bryant leads the team in receiving yards so far with 313. The Fighting Illini WR also has 2 receiving touchdowns.
Bielema spoke to Bryant after the win. Bielema said that Bryant could have reentered the game against Wisconsin, but made the decision to stay on the sidelines after the team was up big.
Here’s what Bielema had to say about it via 247Sports’ Jeremy Werner:
“Pat could have gone Saturday,” Bielema said. “I think he realized when we were up 24 points, the opportunities for the throw game was probably significantly decreased and made an executive decision to pop out. He was very gifted in dance moves in the locker room, I saw. That’s when I grabbed him and said, ‘How are you feeling?’ He said, ‘Oh, I’m fine, Coach.’”
Illinois plays Iowa Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on BTN.
