Bret Bielema was asked by many people, including his wife if Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito was going to be playing in Week 7 when the Fighting Illini hosted Minnesota. DeVito made it clear to coach Bielema on the Sunday after the 9-6 win over Iowa that he will be playing.

DeVito suffered an ankle injury in the win over Iowa that required junior quarterback Artur Sitkowski to finish the game for the win.
Against the defense of the Golden Gophers, DeVito completed 25-of-32 passes for 252 yards, 1 touchdown, and a quarterback rating of 154.6. He also rushed for 17 yards and a touchdown on 3 carries, including the 5-yard touchdown run early in the 3rd quarter.
The offense for Illinois accounted for 472 total yards. No. 24 Illinois is now 6-1 after Week 7 in the second year under Bielema.
