Brian Ferentz addresses continued struggles of Hawkeye offense in 2022

Brian Ferentz might be drawing up offensive plays in his sleep. And the Iowa offense is probably still not scoring. The offensive coordinator didn’t exactly sound optimistic about the unit in his recent comments.

Iowa fans likely don’t want to hear that right now. The Hawkeyes have combined for 20 points over their last two B1G outings against Michigan and Illinois. They also scored just seven points against rival Iowa State and FCS South Dakota State.
Brian Ferentz says that there are some players that are playing that probably haven't developed to the level that they need to in order to be out there.

Yikes again.
Ferentz is essentially saying the Hawkeyes don’t have the personnel to compete right now. The numbers play that out.
Quarterback Spencer Petras has thrown for 940 yards and 2 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. He threw for 246 yards and 1 touchdown against Michigan when the Hawkeyes were behind. His only other touchdown pass was against Nevada when he threw for 175 yards.
Is it all Petras’ fault? No.
Leshon Williams is averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Sam Laporta has 30 receptions at tight end, but no other pass catcher has more than 14 receptions.
Will it get better? Maybe not. Iowa has a week to prepare before the Hawkeyes face Ohio State in Columbus. That one could get ugly fast.
