Brian Ferentz talks ‘exciting’ new role as QBs coach at Iowa

Brian Ferentz is taking on a new role this season. With Ken O’Keefe stepping down following the 2021 campaign, the offensive coordinator will also take over the quarterback room for the upcoming year.
Ferentz is looking forward to the new challenge of coaching the quarterbacks. He explained why during a meeting with reporters on Wednesday.
“Quarterbacks make game and career changing decisions in a matter of tenths, hundredths of a second,” Ferentz said. “That excites me as the new quarterbacks coach.”
Iowa will be looking to find substantial improvement at the position for the 2022 season. The Hawkeyes struggled throwing the football throughout the 2021 campaign but still found a way to hit a 10-win total and claim a B1G West crown.
Both starting quarterback Spencer Petras and backup Alex Padilla are returning for the Hawkeyes, which should create some healthy competition. While Petras is likely the No. 1 guy right now, nothing was locked down after the struggles last fall.
As for Ferentz, he still has a responsibility with running the offense. He talked about what Iowa would ideally like to do on that side of the football this year.
“We want to run the ball effectively and throw the ball efficiently,” Ferentz said.
