The Ohio State Buckeyes recently revealed their latest recipient of the “Block O” jersey, honoring wide receiver Xavier Johnson for his efforts that have shone through clearly for the team.
Offensive coordinator Brian Hartline had no shortage of praise for Johnson, saying that he could not have thought of a better option.
“Couldn’t think of a better person for that award. I know he’s made an impact in our room and he impacts those on special teams,” said Hartline. “You can’t say enough about the gentleman with how he impacts others. Very proud to have him in our room.”

Johnson was mainly a special teams contributor for Ohio State until last season. Injuries on the offensive side of the ball opened the door for him to make plays, including a key touchdown in the season opener against Notre Dame.
The “Block O” jersey was originally made in the honor of Bill Willis, a legend named to both the College and Pro Football Hall Of Fame. It is presented annually to the team leader who embodies Willis’ “toughness, accountability and the highest of character.”
Look for Johnson, who turned down multiple scholarship offers to walk on at Ohio State, to continue to emerge and earn respect in 2023.
